Obituary of Hubert Amos Powell

Hubert Amos Powell, age 92, of Danville passed away Sept. 13, 2007. He was born May 17, 1915, the son of Ruffis A. and Goldie May (Hooker) Powell. Hubert married Beulah "Boots" Lloyd on May 1, 1938. She preceded him in death in April 2004. He is survived by three children, Danny (Karen) Powell, Carol (Don) Broderick and William (Julie) Powell; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a daughter, Glenda Hobaugh.

Hubert was raised in Rose Hill. He graduated from Catlin High School and attended college. He was the owner and operator of Powell Brothers Flying School, which was located on 14th Street in South Danville, from 1942 to 1954. During the 1940s Hubert also taught at Danville High School. He was owner and operator of Powell Fence from 1954 to 1990. Hubert was involved in the Civil Air Patrol and in the Civil Defense Police, where he served as chief for 14 years. He was a member of the Masonic Temple and hunted and collected Indian artifacts.

A private family service was held for Hubert. Sunset's Community and Life Tribute Center handled the arrangements.
