Obituary of Lyda Pauline Shockley

Lyda Pauline Aylor Read Shockley was born March 5th, 1920 to Paul & Kate Aylor on a farm in Boone County Kentucky. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1938 and from Campbell Commercial School in Cincinnati in 1942. During World War II she was employed by the Ohio River Division of the Army Corps of Engineers. In September 1944 she married Fred Read who preceded her in death in 1968. They were parents of Paula Read (Biggs), Fred P. Read, Randall Read and Rodney Read. She was a charter member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, serving on the building committee and as the original Sunday School Superintendent. She was a member of the Epsilon Eta Chapter of the Tri Kappa sorority, the Lake County (Florida) Shrine Ladies Auxiliary, and the Englewood Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 1981 she married Bert Shockley who preceded her in death in 1996. She is survived by her sister Dortha Black, her four children, two step children, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 11:00am-1:00pm with Funeral Service at 1:00pm in Crown Hill Funeral Home 700 W. 38th St. Indianapolis.
