Obituary of Omer Clarence Elledge

Omer Elledge, 50 years old, principal of the Grandview school, lost his life Sunday morning in a tile spring located about forty rods from his home one and a half miles south of Marley, on the farm formerly owned by Firman James.

Mr. Elledge left the house at 7:30 o'clock to draw water from the spring for his hogs. His wife, noting his long absence, went to the spring to investigate and found only his feet protruding from the twenty-inch tiles, one having been placed on top of the other. Being unable to extricate her husband, help was called and a neighbor, Verner Parrish, came to her assistance, but after removing the body found life extinct.

The supposition is that he leaned too far down in the tile to fill his pail and lost his balance.

The deceased was the son of John and Anna Elledge and was born in Symmes township where he had always resided. Surviving are the father , his stepmother, his widow and four children: Truman of Oklahoma, Mrs. Walter Parrish, Birchie and Chester at home.

Mr. Elledge had been an Edgar county teacher for a number of years and was considered one of the very best.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday at 11:00 o'clock at the Methodist church at Oliver with Rev. Forsythe officiating. Interment in the Forsythe cemetery.
