Paul Eugene "Gene" Wirey, 86, of Findlay, died at 12:27 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2011 in Shelby Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Gary Ogden and Rev. Ron Tucker officiating. Visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Greenville Durley Youth Camp, Greenville, IL. Mr. Wirey was born on February 25, 1925 in Pana, IL, the son of John Herman and Orla Frances Maloney Wirey. Gene was a retired farmer and a member of the former Free Methodist Church of Shelbyville. He married Marcella L. Stevens on December 5, 1948. Surviving are his wife, Marcella; son, David E. Wirey and wife Cheryl of Findlay; daughter, Mary Wirey of Findlay; mother-in-law, Daisy Stevens of Shelbyville; brothers-in-law, Harold Allen of Findlay and Gayle Stevens of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jenna Getz and husband Jody of Findlay and David Wirey II and wife Ann of Findlay; and great granddaughters, Makayla, Alicyn, Catherine and Chloe. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, John Edward Wirey and James Lee Wirey; and sister, Norma Allen.
