Obituary of Boyd Lee Highsmith

Boyd L. Highsmith, 86, of Topeka, died Monday, December 10, 2007 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born August 13, 1921 at Antelope, in Marion County, the son of John and Nora Marler Highsmith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army

Boyd farmed near Marion and later near Mayetta. He also worked in road construction and as a security guard using guard dogs in the Topeka area. At one time he owned 22 guard dogs.

He was a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Marion.

Boyd married Josephine G. Nissen on September 22, 1941 in Topeka. She survives.

He was preceded in death by a son, Neal G. Highsmith, a daughter, Nora Lee Porterfield, and two brothers, Oliver F. Highsmith and Roy W. "Bob" Highsmith.

Other survivors include three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 15th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Wetmore Cemetery. Boyd will lie in state until service time at the funeral home where family and friends will meet from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
